Clouds_?

Clouds_? ist inspiriert von Zeichnungen aus dem Werkprozess Steine umkreisen von 2016/17, die mich an wolkenartige Formationen erinnerten. Die mechanische Beanspruchung des Papiers während des Zeichnens führte zu dessen Verformung. Das Papier ist nicht mehr nur Träger, sondern zum Körper geworden. Die Verformungen zusammen mit den Lichtreflexionen auf der Grafitfläche verstärken die dreidimensionale Wirkung. Es entsteht eine eigenwillige Lebendigkeit der abstrakten, körperhaften Gebilde. In einer Serie von 50 kleinformatigen Bogen habe ich diese Bewegungen individuell eingefangen.
Die Bogen, nur an zwei Stellen fixiert, hängen frei und sind in fünf übereinanderliegenden Reihen in einer Wandinstallation montiert. Die Blätter reagieren auch auf die klimatischen Veränderungen im Raum. Das Serielle und die Formunterschiede von Wolke zu Wolke unterstützen die Bewegung – die Wolken schweben quasi dahin. Zwischen der Bewegung und der strengen Ordnung besteht eine starke Spannung.
Das Erfassen des räumlich-zeitlichen Geschehens erfordert von uns als Rezipienten eine aktive Bewegung durch den Raum, erfordert Nähe wie Distanz – es bezieht uns mit ein.
Die Formen, die in ihrer Bewegtheit leicht, luftig und verspielt wirken, erinnern anfänglich an Wolken. Ihre Leichtigkeit wird jedoch durch die schwarze, undurchdringliche Fläche und die strenge Anordnung der Blätter gestört. Als Betrachtende sind wir somit eingeladen, diese Wolken zu hinterfragen, worauf der Titel verweist.

Clouds_? is inspired by drawings from the work process Encircling Stones from 2016/17, which reminded me of cloud-like formations. The mechanical stress on the paper during drawing led to its deformation. The paper is no longer just a carrier, but has now become a body. The deformations together with the light reflections on the graphite surface intensify the three-dimensional effect. The result is an idiosyncratic liveliness of the abstract, sculptured forms. I captured these movements individually in a series of 50 small-format sheets.
The sheets, fixed in only two places, hang freely and are mounted in five superimposed rows in a wall installation. The sheets also react to the climatic changes in the room. The seriality and the differences in form from cloud to cloud support the movement - the clouds virtually float. There is a strong tension between the movement and the strict order.
Grasping the spatio-temporal event requires us as recipients to actively move through the space, requires both proximity and distance - it incorporates us.
The forms, which seem light, airy and playful in their movement, are initially reminiscent of clouds. However, their lightness is disturbed by the black, impenetrable surface and the strict arrangement of the leaves. As recipients, we are thus invited to question these clouds, to which the title refers.
